"Al Grey, the last Big Time Plunger," Charcoal, pastel, and graphite on paper, 18.5" x 24", 2015.

I choose Al Grey as a subject matter for this show because I wanted to highlight a historical figure  to inspire people to follow their dreams. Al Grey was a person who had great passion for music and that passion took him to exciting places and helped him meet wonderful people. He also returned to Pottstown, PA to give back to his community and teach music to young people. He teaches us that life is what you make it and to have diligence when it comes to your craft. His circumstances as a child did not stop him from believing in his self worth.

After creating this piece I realized that the start of the show is also his Birth date (June 6th, 1925), which makes creating this piece and honoring his legacy all the more special.

Listen to some of his music here

Lawrence Eagle Tribune Article!!!

Hello Everyone,

I have been very busy ( mother of three <3) and a tad bit late on the updates. An artist career is much more than just creating images and the marketing/ promoting of this new body of work has been time consuming to say the least, but I have learned a lot from this experience. I usually dedicate my blog as a news feed to update those who are interested in my work with exhibitions, new work, etc, but I hope that in the future I can create more posts that are filled with advice for other emerging artist. With art being cut from many public schools and the lack of focus on professional development in Art Undergraduate and Graduate Programs, I feel passing along this information to those who have the same desire to create art as I do is apart of my calling.
This article written by Terry Date, writer for the Lawrence Eagle Tribune, reminded me how important mentorship has been for my career.
